Liquid Facelift
A liquid facelift aims to improve and rejuvenate the appearance of your face without any surgery. By injecting a combination of fillers and anti-wrinkle injections, concerns such as loss of volume, fine lines and wrinkles, and loss of contour can be addressed.
The result is an enhanced, more youthful version of yourself while keeping a natural appearance. The benefit of a liquid facelift is there is little to no downtime involved and results are almost instantaneous and can last for up to 18 months.
Different Types Of Fillers
There are two categories of dermal fillers currently available in Australia: Gel-type fillers and paste-like fillers. However, due to government regulations we are not allowed to use their brand names on our website. Each of these fillers have their own, unique properties and depending on your specific needs and budget, our practitioners will guide you in selecting the most appropriate treatment options.*
Gel-Type Fillers
The Gel-type filler is a carbohydrate that occurs naturally in skin to draw and maintain the water content of skin tissues. Gel-type fillers are currently the most popular dermal fillers for several reasons: they are biocompatible (no skin test is required), they are biodegradable (the two different brands that we use last from 6-8 months or 10-12 months and sometimes longer), and they also offer hydrating properties to the areas treated, in addition to acting as a filler. They are perfect for filling deep lines and folds, and are also used to enhance the cheeks. A very popular trend is to use Gel-type fillers to smooth out the ageing look of under eye hollows.*
Paste-Like Fillers
Paste-like fillers are synthetically made from the same sort materials found in the bones and teeth. The filler is completely biocompatible and biodegradable. It is thick and white and should NOT be used superficially to fill wrinkles or to enhance the lips. It is however, exceptional in augmenting the cheeks, lifting the deep nose to mouth (naso-labial) and mouth to chin (marionette) folds, and enhancing the jawline. This is a product that truly allows the practitioner to create structure providing a noticeable lifting effect. This injectable takes 12 to 18 months to breakdown allowing dermal stimulation to occur in this time.*
Lip Enhancement Injections
Lip enhancement injections can be used to add volume and definition to your lips and to reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles around the mouth. The lip enhancement procedure is ideal if you have naturally thin lips or lips that have thinned with age or have lost their definition. There are many ways of achieving upper and lower lip enhancement. The most commonly used methods involve injecting dermal fillers into the borders of the lips to achieve a lifting effect, as well as adding definition, and/or placing the products directly into the lips for a fuller pout effect.

The Procedure
An anaesthetic injection lasting 30-60 minutes is always offered when treatments to the lower face are being done. An anaesthetic creams are often used prior to treating the face . Icy poles are used to numb around the eyes and forehead, and are also used immediately post-treatment to minimise bruising. At Dr Warwick Nettle, we offer nitrous oxide (a relaxing gas to breathe that is often offered to pregnant women in labour), if needed, for your comfort (at a cost). It is perfect for those patients who are anxious about receiving injections, offering a very relaxing experience. Most treatments will be completed in a 30-45 minute appointment.*
There are no bandages or dressings applied to the lips. Washing and showering are encouraged as soon as desired. At the end of your procedure you will be given an antibiotic ointment to apply to the incision lines three times a day. Most people having the lip lift procedure are back at work after 7 – 10 days.

The Recovery
Following most dermal filler treatments, there is little downtime. You may feel a slight tenderness afterwards, and minimal swelling or bruising may be noted for 1-3 days. When having under eye hollows treated, or having dermal stimulation or cheek enhancement, more bruising and swelling may occur because these injections are placed deeper. Any minor bruising, swelling or redness will usually disappear within a week.*
FAQS
There is no ideal age for fillers as it depends on individual. Lip enhancements have become very popular for young women, while fillers that restore fullness in other areas of the face are usually more suited to patients in their 40s or older who have experienced a loss of volume due to ageing.
Dermal fillers can last anywhere between 6-18 months. This is due to how much is put in, the type of filler injected and the individual’s metabolic rate. Dermal fillers may last longer if fillers are injected regularly.
The price depends on the type of product and amount that is injected and will be discussed with you in your initial consultation with our Cosmectic Physician.
Do your research when choosing a practitioner for your dermal fillers as there is a wide range of medical practitioners who are allowed to inject, even with minimal experience and training. A lot of nurses who inject class S3 drugs often don’t have the appropriate training and experience to safely treat patients. Our Cosmetic Physician Dr Margot Campion has over 20 years of experience with dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections making her an expert in her field.
Dr Margot Campion will always aim for a natural result and rather inject too little than too much. However, if for some reason you are unhappy with the result of your filler treatment, the product can be dissolved by injecting Hyalase into the treated area.
You may return to work straight away, however, dermal fillers may leave the area red, and there is a chance of bruising. The area may look swollen for a few days following the treatment.
Fillers are a non-invasive procedure to enhance facial features. They can be used to plump up the lips, re-volumise cheeks, and fill wrinkles. They do not effect movement to the facial muscles. Dermal fillers are non-permanent and rarely cause any reactions.
